Testimonial: our cross-cultural lecture is now in demand at MIT Sloan

The Client: The MIT Leadership Center was founded by Deborah Ancona in 2005. The Leadership Center is continuing to share MIT’s brand of leadership with students who will become tomorrow’s problem solvers, tomorrow’s leaders. The center seeks to create a global MIT community who engages and enables others to confront and solve the world’s pressing problems by helping students build the self-knowledge and collaborative capability necessary to make positive organizational and societal change.

The Goal: The MIT Leadership Center together with the MIT Sloan School of Management offers students various classes in leadership development. The classes cover a wide range of topics include executive coaching, a key tool to excelling in leadership roles. They continuously sought talented executive coach and an expert on cross-cultural leadership.

The Results: Joonki was invited to provide his perspective on cross-cultural leadership as a guest lecturer in the MIT Sloan Executive MBA program and MIT Sloan Fellows program. He combined cross-cultural mindset frameworks with in-class experiments, which resonated with the student base. To support continued learning and engagement, Joonki joined the MIT Sloan Leadership Center as an executive coach. He now provides one-on-one coaching to students in the MIT Sloan MBA program, the ID Lab and Teams Lab class.

Nicki Roth, Executive Coaching Program Lead at MIT Leadership Center, shared her experience with Joonki.

“Working with Joonki on addressing issues on cross-cultural business teams has been an honor and a pleasure. We collaborated on developing a lecture for MIT Sloan executive students. Without Joonki's approach, framework, and experience we would not have been as successful. The mid-career students have had many a-ha moments as they reframe difficult team dynamics through the multi-cultural lens. This was exactly our goal. Our lecture is now in demand at Sloan.

Beyond this valuable work, Joonki is now one of MIT Sloan's executive leadership coaches. He brings humility, insight, and deep listening skills to his coaching work and the students have expressed gratitude for his help on their development journeys.

For his depth of experience, his own continuous learning, and his engaging style, I highly recommend Joonki.”
